We’re excited to spotlight Chandra Campbell, BSN, RN, Assistant Nurse Manager at Ballad Health!
- How long have you been in Nursing, and what are your favorite parts about it?
I have been a nurse for 22 years. My favorite part of my work is helping patients and families during some of the most difficult days of their lives.
- What are your favorite parts of leading a nursing team?
My favorite part of leading is learning about my team members as individuals; that bond creates trust resulting in better team engagement.
- What areas has your team improved most? How do you know?
We achieved a significant reduction in patient harm, including a significant decrease in CLABSI rates, through active engagement with frontline team members. This was accomplished by listening to identified gaps in practice and collaborating to implement targeted solutions that effectively addressed those gaps.
- What have you done to prevent Practicing Excellence tip-viewing from feeling like “one more thing” to your nurses?
I demonstrate the usefulness during 1:1 mentoring and problem-solving by watching a tip with the team member. This helps me to show them the convenience and effectiveness of the mini-lessons.
- In what ways have you seen your nurses implement Practicing Excellence tips into their work?
I’ve seen improved collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, more frequent demonstrations of respect, and enhanced engagement in effective communication.
