Program Overview:

In our newest coaching and development program, one of many within the Clinician Experience Project, we have worked with seven exceptional faculty members to create straightforward and actionable tips clinicians can learn, try, and share in cultivating collaborative, engaging, and inclusive teams.

The program focuses on building four skills:

PROGRAM FACULTY

Pantea Vahidi, RN

Compassion Ambassador
Founder, The Vahidi Institute

Pantea Vahidi is an engineer turned nurse turned “compassion ambassador” in San Diego, California. She has served as a med/surg, cardiac, and hospice nurse, which led her to found The Vahidi Institute to help health care organizations cultivate compassion, promote healing, and foster resilience. She also teaches Mindful Leadership and Healthy Equity classes at UC San Diego every fall and is part of the university’s empathy and compassion research team.

Susan Leggett-Johnson, MD, MBA

Internal Medicine Physician

Leadership and Burnout Prevention Coach, DEI & Belongings Implementer

Dr. Leggett-Johnson is an internal medicine physician, certified health care coach, consultant, and DEI & Belongings implementer in the DC-Maryland metro area. She has more than 30 years of clinical experience and is dedicated to helping health care professionals grow as leaders. She is passionate about enriching people’s perspectives on the importance of supporting a culture of belonging and building together in the work environment.

Amruti Borad, DO

Family Medicine Physician

Clinic Medical Director, UC San Diego Health

Provider Well-Being Working Group Director, UC San Diego Health

Dr. Borad is a family medicine physician and clinical medical director at UC San Diego Health, as well as the wellness director of its community care department. She strongly believes that collaboration, connection, and celebrating each other creates an environment that counters the impact of burnout. For her, being a collaborative leader is about willingly getting in the trenches, delivering information in an encouraging way, and building strong relationships with her teams, patients, outside organizations, and the community. 

Darla Adams, APRN

Family Nurse Practitioner
Advanced Practice Clinician Lead North Division, Adult Medicine

SouthWest Medical, Part of Optum

Darla Adams is a family nurse practitioner at Southwest Medical Associates in Las Vegas, Nevada. She’s currently the advanced practice clinician lead of the north division of the Adult Medicine Department. There, she serves as a liaison and resource to advanced practice clinicians, mentors newly onboarded NPs and PAs, and works directly with senior leadership to improve performance and well-being for APCs. She feels fortunate to work with a wonderful team of clinicians and staff who show her what it means to work selflessly and collaboratively each day.

Lisa MacLean, MD

Psychiatrist 

Chief Clinical Wellness Officer
Henry Ford Health System

Dr. MacLean is a psychiatrist and the Chief Clinical Wellness Officer at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. She is also an associate professor at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in the department of behavioral services. As a leader, she’s invested in ensuring that every member of her team feels valued, heard, and empowered to do their best. 

Katie Lydon, MSN, RN, NE-BC, CPXP

Senior Director, Perioperative Services/Women & Children’s Services

NorthBay Healthcare

Katie Lydon is the senior director of Perioperative Services and Women & Children’s Services at NorthBay Healthcare in California. She has worked in various leadership positions in her 17 years with NorthBay, and as a leader and as a nurse, her passion is centered around patient safety and patient experience. She believes in building teams on the basis of trust in order for members to feel safe, collaborate, support each other, and do amazing work together.

Mark Shapiro, MD 

Hospitalist, Providence St. Joseph Health

Host & Producer, Explore The Space podcast

Dr. Shapiro is a full-time hospitalist with Providence Medical Group in Sonoma County, California. There, he serves as the Associate Medical Director for Hospital Services and is on the board of directors for St. Joseph’s Health Medical Group of Sonoma County. He is also the founder, host, and producer of Explore the Space podcast, a platform for conversations about the interface between health care and society. He loves clinical medicine and finds it both sustaining and inspiring.
